# TMI Stable Attention TMI Stable Attention is the trained capacity to keep a chosen meditation object continuously available and increasingly primary without losing the wider field of awareness. ## Meaning In TMI, stable attention develops gradually. At first, attention is interrupted by forgetting and mind-wandering. Later, the object remains continuously available, but distractions and dullness still compete. In the mature form, attention becomes exclusive, effortless, and vivid. Stable attention is not narrow tension. It is trained continuity. It must develop together with [[TMI Peripheral Awareness]] and [[TMI Mindfulness]]. ## Source Of Meaning This note is grounded in The Mind Illuminated introduction, Ten Stages overview, and conscious-experience interlude, especially PDF pp. 28-30, 42-48, and 56-83. ## Relationship Over Time This meaning should mature by comparing Joe's actual attention during practice with the stage map, not by guessing an identity label. ## Links - [[The Mind Illuminated Meaning Guide]] - [[The Mind Illuminated Meaning Map]] - [[TMI Intention]] - [[TMI Peripheral Awareness]] - [[TMI Mindfulness]] - [[TMI Distraction]] - [[TMI Dullness]] - [[Mental Well-being]] - [[Joe]] ## Tensions Stable attention without mindfulness can become tight, dull, or self-enclosed. TMI treats stable attention as one wing of practice, not the whole bird. ## Question Is attention drifting, tightening, dulling, or simply asking for one gentle return?
