# Three Slow Breaths
Three Slow Breaths is the smallest public [[Breath|breathing]] practice in Joe's Mynd.
## Meaning
Try this:
Fastest path:
1. Do the smallest version.
2. Stop after one gentle attempt.
3. Notice: is the next minute easier to inhabit?
4. Open [[Did This Help]] and choose easier, harder, or about the same.
Smallest version: take three easy breaths and let each exhale be a little slower only if that feels natural.
One gentle attempt counts. Try the smallest version once, then stop and ask [[Did This Help]].
Default first move for: [[Feeling Anxious]].
1. Notice that you are breathing.
2. Take one easy breath in.
3. Let one slow breath out.
4. Repeat two more times.
5. Stop.
Do not force the inhale.
Do not chase a special state.
Let the exhale be slow only if slow feels safe and natural.
This practice may support [[Emotional Well-being]] by lowering the intensity of the moment.
It may support [[Mental Well-being]] by giving attention one small home.
It may support [[Physical Well-being]] when slow breathing feels safe and natural.
Use it when you feel [[Feeling Anxious|anxious]], [[Feeling Stuck|stuck]], [[Feeling Unclear|unclear]], or overloaded.
After trying it, ask [[Did This Help]]: did the next moment feel easier, harder, or about the same?
Private noticing is enough.
You can stop here.
If the answer is yes, the practice fit well enough.
If breathing feels dizzy, panicky, painful, medically concerning, or emotionally unsafe, stop and use appropriate support.
If the result is public-safe and useful to share, use:

- [About the same](https://josephniemchak.com/feedback?type=practice&source=Three%20Slow%20Breaths&result=same)
Then ask the smallest fit check: did this practice fit right, fit wrong, or is it too early to tell?
Fit is optional. If answering fit makes this feel bigger, skip it.
## Source Of Meaning
This note is grounded in [[Breath]], [[Slow Breathing Practice]], [[Nervous System]], [[Practice Library]], [[Practice Fit Map]], and the need for the public Mynd to offer one safe-enough first action.
## Relationship Over Time
This should remain the simplest breathing practice in the system.
More complex practices should point back here when someone needs a smaller starting point.

## Tensions
Even a simple breath practice can be too much for some people in some states.
The goal is steadiness, not performance.
## Question
Did three slow breaths make the next minute easier to inhabit?
